CAP-OFF OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Position CAP-OFF over the battery cap and press down firmly.
- Rotate CAP-OFF counterclockwise by 1/4 turn.
- Lift CAP-OFF upwards, ensuring the battery cap remains securely held in the tool's socket.
- Check the water level in the battery cell and top up with distilled water if necessary.
- With the battery cap still attached to the CAP-OFF tool, insert it back into the cell’s fill port.
- Rotate CAP-OFF clockwise by 1/4 turn to secure the cap.
- Lift CAP-OFF straight up to disengage from the battery cap.
- Repeat this process for each battery cap.

As an Owner/Operator of a lift truck business, Murray Velkow has over 45+ years working in the industry. During this time he discovered that one of the most common service calls for repair on an electric forklift was due to damage caused by the lack of distilled water in the forklift battery. The operators were not checking the water level in their electric forklift batteries. If the water level in a battery is not maintained then the heating up process accelerates and will rapidly reduce the life of the battery. Regularly checking the water level is the simple solution to preserving the life of these very expensive batteries.
Unfortunately, the battery caps can be difficult to remove or once they are removed the small caps can slide and fall into the forklift or onto the floor. Another issue is the toxic environment on the battery - sulphuric acid can irritate the skin or burn holes in clothing - gloves must be worn when touching the battery caps. So to address these obstacles Murray set out to engineer a tool that could easily remove the battery caps without touching the skin or clothing and securely hold the cap in the socket until it is returned to the battery.
